Life lessons from a pair of ruby slippers
There’s no place like home
There’s no place like home
There’s no place like home
When I was little, I was OBSESSED with The Wizard of Oz.
Specifically, the ruby slippers.
Those sparkly, red, magic shoes that Dorothy wore, danced in and went on her hero’s journey wearing.
The shoes which are not just fabulous but actually symbolise our innate connection to ourselves.
To our ability to pause, reconnect, metaphorically click our heels together 3 times and be transported back home.
Back home, to ourselves, to safety, to love, to comfort, where we actually discover - we were there all along.
Obviously when I was 4 years old, the symbolism was lost on me - i simply wanted the red. sparkly. magic. shoes.
BUT as I’ve grown, I fall more in love with the principle that we all have access to magic, to self, to a sense of home - right where we are.
This International Women’s Day, coming up soon on 8th March, I am reflecting on the priviledge and the gift of intuition, of self awareness, of having access to that special, magical knowing that women especially seem to have.
How we think in bigger ways, able to witness so many elements merging, converging and influencing each other as we move through the world and make our choices.
This is both ancient and modern day magic and something that many women around the world are unable to access or live in connection with because of war, opression, violence and systemic suppression.
To know oneself and to be able to create a life which is OURS is nothing short of magic and dare-I-say MIRACULOUS.
So today I ask myself, how can I be a first-rate version of myself today?
How can I honour myself and the women around me and the women before me and the tiny, firecracker of a woman I am raising by being true to me, by clicking my heels 3 times and connecting to the home inside my heart?
I’m off to find my ruby slippers….
Thank you for reading and see you next time!
